MATT MACEDO
Director Bio

Born and raised in Central California surrounded by dairy farms and the sweet, sweet aroma of cow… you know…

Between the ages of 3 and 6, I would perform in my step-brother's experimental short films that were mostly high school projects. I remember one particular story where I portrayed a ghost and managed to disappear in front of the door and reappear inside. Really ground-breaking stuff.

Fast forward another six years to age 12 where, for fun, I started writing feature-length screenplays (Envision(103pgs), and Dream(205pgs).

In high school, I shot my first film, a documentary titled Homeless in Hanford. Shortly afterward I filmed Embrace, a found-footage horror film.

In 2015, my film Drug of Choice premiered at the Reno Tahoe International Film Festival.

In 2016, I began my three-year journey towards earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Filmmaking from the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles.

In 2017, Without Regret won Best Student Director at the European Cinematography Awards, earning me my first festival win.

Also in 2017, I was interviewed by VoyageLA Magazine. That article can be found here

In 2018, I created a PSA on the Transgender Day of Remembrance. My school liked the project so much, they were encouraged to host an informative Q&A and invited prominent guests in the LGBTQ+ community to talk about the issues they faced every day.

In 2019, Our Oceans premiered at a private screening at Warner Brothers Studios in Burbank, alongside other incredible New York Film Academy graduating thesis films.
